Call of Duty Warzone is Modern Warfare’s take on the popular battle royale subgenre. The mode was officially teased with the Season 2 opening cinematic, and is currently hiding behind the Classified tile on the game’s main menu. Pretty much all of Warzone’s biggest mechanics have already leaked, as many managed to glitch into the Classified tile. All that’s really left now is wait for Warzone to release, and it looks like that’ll be a while. VGC reports that Warzone is “at least a few weeks away”, and is set for release early in March. The site believes March 10 is a solid candidate for a release date.
VGC’s report reiterates some of the current rumours, such as the mode launching as a standalone, free-to-play game. Current owners of Modern Warfare will obviously access it for free, with the added benefit of bringing their months of progression and unlocks into it. The Season 2 Battle Pass is said to also factor into Warzone progression. At this point, Activision has yet to acknowledge any of the leaks, or even confirm the Warzone name officially. VGC says content creators in North America are being flown in this week to play and capture Warzone at Infinity Ward, in preparation for a big marketing push in the near future. The report certainly puts a damper on fan theories that Warzone will be going live this week, but those weren’t really based on any real information, more just hopes and dreams.
